Hi, my name is Rachel North and I am based in Hobart in the beautiful island state of Tasmania, Australia and live with my husband Paul, and our blue colour-point British Short-hair, Thomas. From a very young age I have loved art and particularly painting landscapes and animals.

I specialise in exceptionally realistic pet portraits. My aim is to capture the exclusive personality of your beloved pet in a highly detailed portrait.

To accomplish this, before commencing work on your portrait, I first of all, discuss with you, your pet’s life, endearing habits, funny personality quirks, what makes him or her tick, what you love most about your furry friend. These things help me paint not only an accurate representation of your pet but allows your pet’s personality to shine through and bring you joy for many years to come.

All my portraits are painted from photographs and using only the highest quality art materials.

I have painted many dogs and cats over the years and each piece of artwork that I have created have become treasured portraits, taking pride of place on a wall in the home, office or elsewhere. I am thrilled when I get to see someone’s joy upon seeing their pet brought to life on canvas.

I am also a lover of nature and bringing to life on a canvas, a much-loved rural scene is a truly satisfying experience for me. For example, living in the south of Tasmania, I have had opportunity to enjoy the vast array of rural scenes that this beautiful island offers, from the rugged mountains (known as ‘The Hazards’ on the east coast) to the tranquillity of the Russell River south of Hobart. Painting these beautiful landscapes and hanging them in my home means that I can enjoy the memories of visiting those places all the year around.
